Getting the pictures back out
A PDF is often the only surviving copy of an image — a product photo in a
brochure, a chart in a report, a scanned certificate someone converted years
ago. Screenshotting it gives you a blurry crop at screen resolution. Extract
Images pulls the actual embedded image file out of the document at the
resolution it was stored, which is usually far higher than what you can see on
screen.
Every image, individually
Pages often carry several images that look like one thing: a logo in the header,
three product shots, a signature graphic. DesiDocs walks the document's image
objects and pulls each one separately rather than flattening the page into a
single picture. A ten-page report with a logo on every page and two photos per
page yields each logo occurrence and each photo as its own file.

Original quality, genuinely
The bytes that were stored in the PDF are what you get. There is no
re-encoding, no resizing and no second round of JPEG compression, so a 3000px
photo comes out at 3000px. If an image looks poor, it was already poor when it
was put into the PDF — extraction cannot add detail that was never there.
When you get nothing, and why
Two cases surprise people:
- A PDF built from text has no images. Charts and diagrams drawn as vectors
are drawing instructions, not pictures, and there is no image object to
extract. PDF to JPG will render such a page to an image
instead.
- A scan is one image per page. Scanning software stores the whole sheet as a
single photograph, so a twenty-page scan gives you twenty full-page images,
not the individual photos printed on those sheets.
