Pages that came out sideways

document in landscape and the whole thing arrives on its side. The content is
fine; it is the orientation that is wrong, and reading it means tilting your
head or rotating the view every time you open the file — a fix that is never
saved, so the next person does it again.
Rotating is free, in every sense
This is the one PDF operation with genuinely no cost to quality. A PDF page
carries a rotation attribute, a number telling the viewer which way up to
display it. Rotating sets that number. Nothing is re-rendered, no pixels are
resampled, no text is touched.
So you can rotate the same page ninety degrees four times and land back at a
file identical to the original. There is no generational loss, no softening of
scans, and no change in file size. This is worth knowing because it is the
opposite of what happens when you rotate a JPEG in most image editors.
Individually, not all at once
Choose 90°, 180° or 270°, and apply it to the pages that need it rather than the
whole document — which is the point, since a scan usually has a handful of
sideways sheets among the correct ones. Thumbnails show you every page, so you
can see which are wrong instead of opening the file separately to find out.
